Siemens TIA portal VMware
If you are having issues connecting TIA portal to your VM's network connection and PLC, you need to configure a few things on your VM.
First you need to add which internet connection you want to enable for the VM, make sure you choose the right VM!
- In VMware Workstation click on the "Edit" tab
- Choose "Virtual Network Editor"
- Click on "Change Setting" - You will need administrative rights for this step, so you need to request for "Administrative Rights" in Heimdal.
- Now click on "VMnet0" and under "Bridged to:" you want to change it from Automatic to Bluetooth Device - This is required for you to add new networks, otherwise you will get an error
- Now you can add all network connections you have available to you i.e WiFi, Dock, LAN (Refer to the picture below)
When you want to add a new connection click on the "Add Network" button
Select a new network to add: i.e VMnet3
After you have created a new network, you need to choose what type of connection you want to bridge.
Make sure the network is set to "Bridged" - Choose what the network is bridging to by clicking the dropdown menu.
If you are setting up a "LAN" connection, you need to choose the corresponding connection type in this instance: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection
Now we need to rename the network to something we relate to - So click on the new network that you just created, and click on the "Rename Network" button.
Rename the network to i.e "LAN" if that is how the connection is set up.
Now you need to setup an extra network adapter for your VM - You need to add a new network adapter for each type of connection you want to use
- Make sure your VM is turned off and make sure you have selected the right VM
- In VMware Workstation click on the VM tab.
- Go to settings
- Now click Add and add a new network adapter
- Choose "Custom" and add the specific connection type you want to add i.e "LAN"
Your VM settings should look like this:
Start up your VM and open up TIA Portal. Now when you make a new project, you should be able to choose between the different connection you have set up. They will all be named "Ethernet Connection 1,2 and so on".
You can refer to the "Virtual Network Editor" for which connection is which, they will be in the same order as you made them.
Now when you choose the connection you have set up to the PLC, in this case LAN, the PLC should show up.
